The Island Experience
Welcome to the Lost Key!
Perdido Key’s literal translation means “Lost Key”, so named by the early Spaniards who discovered it in 1693. Until then, the Key was the well-kept secret of Gulf Coast Native Americans – Perdido Key’s first inhabitants.
Today, Perdido Key remains a unique community where locals and travelers from around the world come to “get lost” on the narrow strip of protected coastline. Home of sparkling blue waters, and soft, crystal-white sands; find yourself in paradise when visiting Perdido Key! A barrier island on the state line of Florida and Alabama, Perdido Key is comprised of more than 60 percent state and national parks, forever preserved for public use. Our protected shoreline safeguards nature and limits development for our coastal community. The Island offers water access to the peaceful Intercoastal waterway to the north, and the natural beaches of the Gulf of Mexico to the south.
Upon Crossing the Theo Baars Bridge to the island, one can sense a laid-back feeling of island life on the key. Get to know what it is like to be “running on island time” as you experience the relaxed feel of the locals and small business community, the consistent yet gentle cool island breeze, and the miles of state and national parks that promote the island’s remoteness.

Preserve Our Beach
Much to the relief of our locals and devoted guests, Perdido Key escaped the early explosion of beach development, mostly due to its remoteness. To this day, Perdido Key proudly represents one of the last stretches of untouched beach that captured the attention of the very first visitors. The partnership of local homeowners, small businesses, and dedicated visitors recognize the importance of environmental stewardship in order to maintain the charm, tranquility, and natural beauty of the island, all while providing protection and habitats for the unique and diverse wildlife that exists on Perdido Key.
